The Marion Hotel at 200 W. Markham St. in Little Rock; May 1965 (Courtesy of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, Central Arkansas Library System) The Marion Hotel (also known as the Hotel Marion) in downtown Little Rock was one of the most famous businesses in Arkansas for much of the 20th century.Construction began in 1905 on the hotel, which was the tallest structure in the state from when it opened in 1907 until 1911. The Marion was built by Herman Kahn, who had moved to Little Rock from Frankfurt, Germany, in 1870.
